Subtitles for live or late programmes

With more programmes than ever before containing a live element, the challenge is to use the latest technology, including voice recognition software, to develop live subtitles that are on a par with the subtitles provided on pre-recorded programmes.

Since April 2005, Testun has undertaken most of the subtitling work for S4C's late and live programmes. The contract has given the company opportunities to develop and adopt new methods, recruit and train dedicated staff and establish a good working relationship with programme producers.

The programmes include the channel's coverage of some of Wales' main events and festivals including the Urdd National Eisteddfod, The Royal Welsh Show, Llangollen International Eisteddfod, Brecon Jazz Festival and the Cerdd Dant Festival as well as live rugby matches and highlights on Clwb Rygbi, current affairs programmes such as Y Byd ar Bedwar and Ffermio and youth programmes such as Bandit and Uned 5.
